Jennifer Lopez - Intimissimi Lingerie This Is Me Now Collection - October 2023

Jennifer Lopez on Designing Her Intimissimi Collection and Picking Lingerie for Ben Affleck Dates

“The This is Me…Now experience is about a journey to figuring yourself out, and I tried to reflect that in the design of the collection.”

Lingerie has always allowed Jennifer Lopez to celebrate herself, and it’s that ethos that fueled the “This is Me... Now” collection she designed with Intimissimi, out today. The pieces, from showstopper rhinestone bras to sultry lace bodysuits, are inspired by her upcoming album of the same name.

The singer spoke to ELLE.com via email about how her adventures in love and self-discovery inspired the pieces she made. “The This is Me…Now experience is about a journey to figuring yourself out, and I tried to reflect that in the design of the collection,” she said. Special touches, such as pieces in her lucky color green (the color of her second engagement ring from now-husband Ben Affleck) and hummingbird charms, were chosen with intention.

Lopez explained the symbolism of the hummingbird charms in particular, calling it a “favorite detail” of hers. “The hummingbird symbolizes love, energy, and resilience but whenever I seen one, I always feel like it’s a sign from God that everything’s gonna be OK,” she said. “I thought about putting that onto some of the items and wearing that underneath my clothes every day would be a reminder to always know that everything’s going to turn out great.”

Lopez speaks below about designing the collection, her tips for wearing lingerie with confidence, and how she approaches picking lingerie for date nights with Affleck. “He loves me for who I am, and so the more authentic I can be to myself I’ve noticed the more I feel his love,” she said.

How did the capsule collection bring in elements of your album This Is Me… Now? In what ways did your journey in love, as reflected in your music, inspire the design choices?

The collection is classic in style but includes a lot of romantic and personal designs. This album is my most personal to date and maybe my most romantic. The This is Me…Now experience is about a journey to figuring yourself out, and I tried to reflect that in the design of the collection. The colors are rich and the fabrics are extremely elegant and timeless. The collection is meant to inspire self-love and confidence, which is a common theme throughout not just the music but the entire experience that I am sharing with my new music as well.

How has your own lingerie style evolved from This Is Me… Then to This Is Me… Now?

Well, my style in general is always evolving, but there are still some commonalities between who I was then and who I am now. I’ve always loved sexy lace and unique details as you’ll see in this collection, but now more than ever I’m really leaning into silks and some of the more lounge-like pieces. I love silk slip dresses, robes, and PJs that feel glamorous and timeless, but they can still be paired with a bra and lace panties for a sexier youthful feeling. I guess what I really focus on more now also is what I feel good in and what I want to wear. I wear these pieces for me to feel good, and I want everybody else to feel good about who they are when they put it on too. To love themselves for exactly who they are because everyone is beautiful when you are confident and embrace who you are.

What’s your favorite piece from the collection and why?
I honestly love all of the pieces, it’s really hard to pick. But there is a favorite detail of mine, which is a straight inspiration from the album in a song called “Hummingbird,” and we’ve included a beautiful little hummingbird charm on a number of the pieces, which is dear to my heart and has a very strong meaning to me.

How does your approach to choosing lingerie change when you’re dressing for date night or special occasion with your husband versus when you’re dressing just for yourself?

Honestly, there’s no difference really from how I dress for a date night or special occasion with my husband versus how I dress for myself. He loves me for who I am, and so the more authentic I can be to myself I’ve noticed the more I feel his love. I dress for my own confidence and for what makes me feel good and that radiates when I love how I feel and what I put on my body. It’s that energy that makes people gravitate towards you, not the outfit specifically.

What advice do you have to women of all ages to help them feel confident in lingerie?
Wear what you love and what you’re most comfortable in whether it’s a bodysuit, a slip dress, or a silk pajamas set. That’s what I love about this collection, This is Me…Now! You accept who you are now! The breadth of the products we’ve created allows for everyone to find something they will feel comfortable in. So just be you. Love you, in all of your beauty and even all your perceived flaws. Love them. Love them all because they make you who you are and there is nobody like you. You’re one of a kind, and what’s more beautiful than that?
